Sri Sadguru Sadananda Maharaj is none other than the incarnation of the supreme Lord Dattatreya, who has come down to earth in the Human form in order to uplift human beings and Dharma in Kaliyuga.Sadguru Sadananda is the King in the galaxy of eternal Gurus. Having appeared as Siddha He has revealed His innate spiritual powers from the very beginning and has shunned all wordly things. He is the beacon light to those who are adrift in the swerling waters of earthly existence. He helps us to ford across the ocean of Samsara and to cut asunder the knots of earthly bondage. Sadguru Sadananda has so far spread the message of social harmony and universal love. Sadguru Sadananda is the incomparable “Purusha” who is the embodiment of all virtues. The nectarian sweetness of Madhura Bhakti alone pleases Him and not anything else. He himself is the chariot that carries one from this mundane world to the shores of salvation and bliss. Sadguru Sadananda should be our desire that satisfies all the Satwika desires.
It is not known for certain where and when Sadananda Baba was born. When asked He normally replied that the Goddess is His mother or that He did not remember. It is also not known for sure where He hailed from. There are various opinions about this, however, the most likely one says that He was born in a village called “ Upperi Halabhavi” which is in the border of Ballary and Raichur districts of north Karnataka. His father was a rich landlord and His mother died when He was very young. His father soon remarried and His stepmother moved in. She despised this little child and traumatized Him. She wanted to get rid of the child, hence called her brother one day and asked him to take Him into the jungles and cut Him to pieces. From this point there are different stories about what exactly happened to the little child.
One story says that the step uncle took the child to the thick forests and cut Him up into three pieces. After he left Him, Lord Dattatreya appeared and joined all the three pieces and put life into the little child once again and blessed Him saying that, the three pieces of His body were symbolic of none other than Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva (the Supreme Lord Dattatreya) and after saying this the Lord disappeared.
Another story says that the step uncle could not kill the child hence, he left the child in the middle of the jungle on his own and returned. The child from then stayed in the forest. He survived on eating fruits and leaves and sleeping on trees and rocks. It is the Lord himself who protected the child from the animals and the rough nature.
A third story says that the little boy got tired of the atrocities that His step mother subjected Him to and at a tender age of 7 decided to leave His home and wandered off into the jungles. While in the jungles, He contracted severe chicken pox. To cure Him from the disease, Lord Dattatreya transformed himself to an old man and came to cure the little boy. After the child recovered, The Lord put three of his fingers on the tongue of the child, blessed Him and said, “From now onwards whatever You utter will come true”. It is said that the marks of the Lord’s blessings on Sadananda Baba’s tongue existed till He lived.
It is not known for certain when Sadananda Baba was born, however, it is estimated that He was born sometime in the year 1935. First 7 years of His life beginning 1935 to 1942 are understood to have been spent by Him at His home in Raichur or serving in the temple of Goddess Aranyat.
The next 8 years of His life beginning 1942 to 1950 are known to have been spent in different parts of North Karnataka State.
The third part of His life spanning approximate 12 years, beginning from the year 1950 to 1962 are known to have been spent largely in Telagi as the central place of His stay and He travelled to nearby places like Hunagunda, Bagalkote, Bijapur, Jamakhandi, Athani, Yallamma gudda, Solapur, Kollur, Indi,Surapura, Sindhagi, Lingasooguru, Mantralaya, Shrishaila, Hubli, Gadag, Lakkundi and Lakshmeshara. However, most of the period He spent in Telagi. During the same span He is also known to have met Swami Nityananda.
Sadguru Sadananda Baba spent last span of His life in Nashik, Mumbai, Bangalore, Bijapur and Hubli. During this period He built His Ashrams at Bijapur, Mumbai and Bangalore.
During the above period Sadguru Sadananda Baba has performed thousands of Miracles which has been experienced by many devotees in different parts of India and Abroad.

It is a routine for Sadananda Baba to create, out of soonya or vacuum or void, Bhasma, Linga, Rudraxas, Statues of Gods and Goddesses, Shankar Saligrams, feet replicas (Paduka), Atma Linga, Diamond, Betel Leaves, Betel nuts and to grace those articles to His devotees in order to create a devotion in them. There are thousands of miracles perfomed by Sadguru Sadananda Baba in curing diseases without medicines like Cancer, Heart attacks, T.B, paralysis, gastric trouble and kidney stones etc. When suffering of the devotee is in point of danger Baba used to take all that sufferings to himself and cure the devotees.
Sadguru Sadananda Baba has shown to His devotees the Avtaars of Gods and Goddesses that too as per the faith of the devotees. The common Avtaars shown by Sadguru Baba are, Lord Dattatreya, Ganesha, Raghavendra Swami, Adishakti, Laxmi, Ishwar, Krishna, Narasimha, Hanuman or any form of or any kind of animals like snake, tiger, birds etc. Sometimes He has converted Himself as a Baby, Adult or the Aged, sometimes He is found physically present in America, Mumbai ashram and other places simultaneously.
Sadguru Sadananda Baba has lighted chimneys, lantern, petromaxes by using water, even Cars have been run without petrol. Many devotees smelt the scent oozing from the feet of Sadguru Baba. With His mystic powers He used to know the worries of His devotees and He had a power to wash the sins of His faithful devotees. Innumerable Lingas were floating around Baba when He was bathing in the river water. Thousands of Rudraxas were poured from His body at once. Water became ghee, hand of Sadguru Baba turned boiling “Sajjige” as big spoon without getting hurt. Burning camphor was swallowed, impotent became potent, statues came to life, childless parents were blessed with children…….these are some of the extracts taken from the books written and published by Baba’s old devotees. Sadguru Sadananda Baba has mastery and control over all kinds of feelings. All virtues constitute Baba and He would always be in the state of bliss. Baba would give “sparsha darshan” to all His devotees without any restrictions. Hence He is the King in galaxy of Eternal Gurus. One can appreciate the “Prati Namaskar” of Sadguru Baba unlike other Gurus. His devotees will always be happy and continuity of their faith will certainly lead them to salvation. He used to ask His devotees to attend His Bhajans and Aartis in His Ashrams, specially on Mondays and Thursdays. He has given us a very powerful Guru Mantra i.e. :
“ DATTATREYA OM NAMAH SHIVAYA SRI SADANANDAYA NAMAHA”
By chanting this Guru Mantra regularly, all the problems of devotees will be solved by Sadguru Sadananda Baba and will be blessed with Health, Wealth and Happiness.
Sadguru Sadananda Baba has come down to earth in the Human form and after blessing all His devotees, He had to leave the Human body and took Samadhi on 12th February, 1996 at Rayapura, Hubli, (Karnataka State)
It is said that those who had immense faith in Him and left their fate in His hands while concentrating only on efforts towards following the path that was shown by Him have been rid of all their sorrows and pains and have had everything that they wished for and also liberation and immense peace of mind. Though Sadguru Sadananda Baba does not physically exist amongst us today, He is always there for His devotees and all those who believe in Him are blessed by His powers for ever and ever …..
